LATIN AMERICAN NETWORK FOR THE STUDY AND CONSERVATION OF TROPICAL DRY FOREST - DRYFLOR II
DryFlor consists of researchers and conservationists interested in expanding knowledge of the dry forest flora and promoting its conservation in Latin America. The first phase of the network (2012 - 2015) had the purpose to compile the floristic listings of the woody plants of the neotropical dry forests in a database of free access online http://www.dryflor.info/home. This initiative developed the first data set of all the flora of the dry forests of the Neotropics. The continental-scale biogeographical analyzes published in the journal Science (DRYFLOR, 2016) contextualized for the first time the great heterogeneity in the floristic composition of dry Latin American forests, highlighting the need to design particular conservation strategies for each of the identified areas, giving an international framework for both regional and national initiatives. The excellent synergy between the members of DRYFLOR and the positive results obtained such as the free access database, the development of three symposium and field trips, a publication and cover of the journal Science, the production of educational material for local communities and realization - distribution of a short animated video with more than 30,000 visualizations. It should be noted that the Dry Ecosystems Foundation of Colombia is the coordinator of the Network in Colombia.
The second phase of the DryFlor network (2019-2021) has the support of the CYTED program (Iberic-American Program of Science and Technology for Development). The main objective is to compile quantitative data -abundance- of tree species, to deepen knowledge. of the communities of plants of the dry forests and transmitting that knowledge in concrete actions for its conservation.
