The ESC Foundation acts as executive secretary throughout the Caribbean node, so we have supported, coordinated and established permanent 1-hectare (2.5 acres) plots in the Departments of Bolívar, Magdalena and La Guajira.

Taking into account the current condition of the dry forest in Colombia, since 2013 the Humboldt Institute in partnership with different actors of the national territory has joined efforts to work on a research agenda and monitoring of the dry forest in Colombia under three general guidelines: i. expand knowledge on the distribution, conservation status and pressures on this ecosystem. ii. Establish permanent monitoring platforms for biodiversity and ecosystem processes, and iii. Increase the reference level on the biodiversity of this ecosystem through biological characterizations, biological collections, and synthesis of information on a national scale.
